🙏THE MADIRIGIRIYA VATADAGE 🙏

😊The Medirigiriya Vatadage is one of the most historically beautiful places in my area.😊

madirigiriya vatadage is situated in middle of

a dry zone forest area adding to its mystic view and has a history going back to the pre-christain times. The brami characters found on the bricks and the some of the stone carvings in an indication of the long history of this site.the first reference to this site in the chronicles is during the king kaniththa Thissa (192-194) of the Anuradhapura era.later many kings have contributed to this complex and

finally after the invasion of maga this site too was abandoned when the sinhalese migrated to the southern parts unable to withstand the
toture .According to the culawansa ,the lesser chronicle of sri lanka ,the vatadage was build in the 7th century by king Aggabodhi vi (733-772).

Elevator class

An elevator class to enter the Vatadage.  It is located northeast of the Vatadage.  Consists of two parts.  Elevator Class Elevation.  Length.  At the bottom of the stairs is a door made of black stone.  The Vatadage should be entered through this door.  Two Punkalas are carved on the two high pedestals at the top of the staircase.  A small dagoba in the center of the Vatadage.  The Dagaba is about 5 feet high.  The diameter of the base of the dagoba is 26 feet.  The foundation of the Dagaba is made of limestone.  It is surrounded by three round stone towers with beautiful towering heads.

 Tower carvings

The towers are octagonal in shape.  The head of the tower is lotus-shaped.  Decorated with dwarf nights and chains.  The outer circle of the Vatadage consists of 32 pillars, each 9 feet high.  A stone fence was erected to support the towers.  This stone fence is about 3 feet 6 inches high.  An extremely interesting feature.  In the middle are 20 pillars, each 16 feet high.  A wall formed between the center of the central tower and the outer tower.  This wall is 1 foot 9 inches hight.

So  ,I consider myself fortunate to have such a place of worship of historical value in my area.🙏🙏
